KUALA LUMPUR – Majlis Amanah Rakyat Malaysia (Mara) received nearly 75,000 applications nationwide for admission to the Mara Science Junior College (MRSM) this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said this was high, as the agency could only offer 9,900 places for students who fulfilled the selection conditions and criteria.
“We still retain the admission quota to MRSM at 60% for B40 group, 20% for M40, 15% for T20, and 5% for non-bumiputeras,” he told a media conference after the MRSM Golden Jubilee celebration opening ceremony and Mara breaking of fast ceremony here yesterday.
In connection with this, Mahdzir said the government would study the need to open more MRSM nationwide to meet the high demand every year, especially students from rural areas.
He said that the MRSM in Ranau, Sabah and in Bintulu, Sarawak are expected to be completed by the end of this year, while five more would be built in Ketereh and Tanah Merah in Kelantan; Sik in Kedah; Lawas in Sarawak; and Dungun in Terengganu.
Earlier, Mahdzir also launched a new platform “MRSM Channel”, which is an online learning medium for students to follow teaching videos by expert teachers in every subject. – Bernama, April 21, 2022
