A SOCIAL activist recently shared how a housewife from the north ran away from her drug addict son and now lives in the streets of Kuala Lumpur.

She rents a small room with the little money she has but only sleeps there when she feels unwell.

Mohamad Azhan Mohamed Adnan @ Abbe Hae shared that the elderly woman is among the many that live on the streets and depend on the kindness of others for their daily needs.

"This woman has several children and one of them is a hardcore addict. He often forces her to hand over money for him to get his drugs.

"This mother is a recipient of zakat assistance, and she always ends up handing over whatever money she gets to her addict son fearing that he will harm her," he said.

He said she fled to Kuala Lumpur because one day her son put a knife to her neck and she was almost killed.

"She gave him all her money to save herself. Thank God she was not harmed after she handed over the money.

"She once suffered head injuries after she was beaten by her addict son ... she has other children, but they do not care about their old mother," said Abbe.

Her husband lives with his second wife.

"The husband is the one who asked his wife to run away from their addict son ... what kind of husband is this."

Abbe said the old lady said she feels safer and more secure living his way.

Apart from her zakat money, she also sells chips and tissues to get by, apart from some kindness from strangers. - September 16, 2025
