IN November this year Ford Thailand launched the face-lifted Ford Everest SUV, which showed some distinctive new design elements, an enhanced powertrain, with added safety and convenience features plus new exciting colors.

Back in early 2015, Ford Malaysia launched the 2nd generation Everest with a handsome design, SUV cabin features and with engine options. 

A 3.2-litre DuraTorq 5-cylinder TDCi with a little under 200bhp and an impressive 470Nm of torque for the top-of-the-range model, which is priced at RM259,888, and also a 2.2-litre Duratorq 4-cylinder with around 160bhp and 385Nm of torque, which is priced from RM198,888.

At the time, the Japanese car manufacturers like Mazda, Hyundai, Kia and Honda were introducing swanky looking SUV’s with sedan-like drive dynamics, powerful engines and at lower selling prices. 

Yes, they did lack the tough off road capability of the Ford Everest but Malaysians who wanted a tough driving vehicle bought a Ford Ranger pickup truck which had the capabilities, safety features and at a lower asking price. 

This is why the sales success of the Everest never made a business case for Ford Malaysia and so they slowly discontinued its showroom existence.

Now, comes a revised Everest in Thailand which we Malaysians will not be able to purchase.

Still popular in Middle Africa and Asean nations with work in progress road conditions, the Everest will see continued demand as it comes with the 4x4 drive capability of a tough pickup truck and the cabin of a well appointed SUV.

NEW Everest Refinement

Taking the popular go anywhere SUV to the next level, the new Everest continues to fulfil its role as a technology-led SUV with advanced safety features and greater on- and off-road drivability designed for adventure seekers to overcome all challenges.

Following the success of the Everest Sport in Thailand and Indonesia, has been well received by Ford customers.

Almost half of Everest buyers opted for the model Ford is putting the same appealing athletic elements across the new line-up featuring a refreshed unique grille, ‘Everest’ chrome hood lettering, chrome door handles and side mirrors and new alloy wheels. 

The new Everest offers a new color, Snow Flake White Pearl, for the Trend, Titanium and Titanium+, and Deep Crystal Blue exclusively for the Titanium Sport.

New Everest Powertrain

When mated with the advanced 10-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers exceptional performance with a maximum of 213PS of power and 500Nm of torque.

Ford has a dedicated team of engineers constantly striving to develop Ford vehicles that offer the most advanced technology, the latest designs, and state-of-the-art features that help deliver an unrivalled driving experience. 

By utilizing data analytics, customer feedback, as well as series of testing, the 2.0L engine has been further engineered with key manufacturing technology and material upgrades.

What If

With its revised looks and the 2.0L diesel engine, could this Ford Everest make a comeback to Malaysia? Well we think not as the Mazda CX-8 would be a preferred choice at RM213,992 with its 2.2-litre turbo diesel and all-wheel drive. 

Then there is also the new Hyundai Santa Fe diesel with its 2.2-liter turbo diesel and all wheel drive, which retails for just RM211,888. 

So, no new Everest for Malaysia. – The Vibes, December 28, 2020
