WHAT is self-love? When you hear the word self-love, does your mind conjure images of you taking a bubble bath, indulging in a tub of ice cream or reading your favourite books?

Well, self-love is beyond that - it's about having compassion for oneself. Many psychology studies attest, self-love and compassion are key for mental health and well-being, especially when we are too hard on ourselves and we constantly strive for perfection.

This stems from a desire to excel and do everything right, all the time. The by-product of such behaviours is a lot of self-criticisms and it's also when our harsh inner critic rears its head out.

Studies have shown that perfectionists are at a higher risk of several illnesses, both physical and mental and that self-compassion might free us from its grip.

Jojo's tips to cultivate more self-love:

❤ Listening to yourself

❤ Positive Self Talk

❤ Start your day with something you enjoy, it can be anything; from sipping your favourite cup of tea or putting on your favourite tune.

❤ Be compassionate to yourself
