VETERAN RTM newsreader, Kamaruddin Ahmad, 78, breathed his last due to old age at his residence in Bukit Sentosa, Selangor, at 7am this morning.

The late Kamaruddin left a widow, eight children, seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

During his 20 years at RTM, he became the first television presenter in the history of national broadcasting, working with the late Wan Chik Daud.

His son, Kamarul Zaidi Kamaruddin, 53, confirmed the news to BH Online.

The former broadcaster had several health complications including diabetes and pain in the prostate area.

"He has had no appetite for the past few months. He was losing weight.”

"My father also had body aches and coughs," he added.

Kamarul, who lives in Damansara and works as a civil engineer, said he had not seen his father for more than a year because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I had planned on taking a break next week to visit him,” he added.

Kamaruddin was buried at the Islamic Cemetery, Bukit Beruntung, before Zohor. – The Vibes, September 2, 2021
