A SENIOR police officer was today charged with the murder of a 17-year-old schoolboy three days ago in Ipoh, Perak.
No plea was recorded from Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, 44, after the charge was read before magistrate S. Punitha, as the case comes under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Nazri, a deputy superintendent with the Kedah police, nodded after the charge was read out to him.
Nazri was charged under section 302 of the penal code with killing Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie at Jalan Taman Jati 1 near SMK Jati in Meru between 12.05pm and 12.40pm on December 15.
None of the accused’s family were seen at the courtroom gallery.
The prosecution team comprised Azlina Rasdi, Khairul Azreem Mamat, Wan Azimah Yaacob, Afzainizam Abdul Aziz, Saiful Akmal Mod Said, Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani, J. Geetha and Low Qin Hui.
The accused was represented by Jacky Low Yap Loong.
The court set February 7 for mention, pending chemical reports.
Nazri was arrested on Friday, hours after Zaharif was killed.
It was previously reported a car had rammed into Zaharif’s motorcycle after a 1km chase, causing him to fall off and be dragged nearly 5m.
The victim’s brother, Zarul Fitri, 29, was seen wiping tears when the charge was read to the accused. – The Vibes, December 18, 2023.
