IPOH – The Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council has introduced zakat payment via the Shopee e-commerce platform starting Friday to facilitate Muslim consumers.

Its chief executive officer, Shahrul Azam Shaari, said the e-commerce platform was chosen as more consumers are opting for online transactions and purchases, which are easier and faster.

He said Muslim consumers could pay zakat by selecting “Deals, Top-ups & Bills” in the Shopee application and following the steps provided.

“Muslim consumers can make zakat payments via Shopee whether by using ShopeePay (mobile wallet), debit card or online banking. Apart from that, cash payments can be made at any 7-Eleven branch,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the collaboration with Shopee will make it easier for Muslim consumers to pay zakat, especially in Perak, adding that the zakat collection will be distributed to benefit the asnaf group.

He said to boost the collection, a zakat campaign will be conducted on Shopee from December 22 to 31, which will offer 200 Shopee coins to the first 1,000 selected payers every day. – Bernama, December 16, 2020
