KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor is the state with the highest number of new Covid-19 infections at 481 today, bringing the nation’s daily tally to 1,295.
Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah recorded 268 cases, followed by Johor with 105.
Seven new deaths were recorded while eight new clusters have been detected, Dr Noor Hisham said during his daily press conference.
Daily recoveries stand at 1,052, while the total number of recoveries since the pandemic began stands at 72,733.
The new infections today also bring the cumulative number of cases to 87,913, Dr Noor Hisham said. The number of current active cases stand at 14,751.
He added that a total of 113 cases are under intensive care while another 53 cases require ventilators.
Of the deaths, five cases occurred in Sabah, involving a man and a woman who were Malaysian citizens, and three other male non-citizens.
The other two deaths were reported in Kelantan and Selangor respectively, involving a local man and woman. All those who died yesterday were senior citizens whose ages ranged from 52 to 77.
The deceased patients also had prior medical complications such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Dr Noor Hisham said that up till December 16, a total of 426 clusters have been registered, including the eight new clusters reported today. Of the total, 230 are now inactive.
The current active clusters that are being monitored stand at 196, and 51 clusters reported additional cases today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the clusters that have seen the newest cases are the Teratai (143 cases), Usaha (79 cases) and Tapak Bina Jalan Stadium (63 cases) clusters.
The eight new clusters reported today were the Puncak Galaksi (54 cases), Bukit Punai (7 cases), Tapak Bina Permai (48 cases), Tapak Bina Matahari (15 cases), Tapak Bina Laut (8 cases), Cahaya Mahsuri (32 cases), Seri Tasik (7 cases), and Inten (9 cases) clusters. – The Vibes, December 16, 2020
