MCA YOUTH today joined others to condemn the vile act of hurling a petrol bomb at a KK Mart outlet in Perak.
Mike Chong Yew Chuan, who is the MCA Youth deputy chairman said such criminal intimation must not be tolerated nor condoned.
"This offensive conduct not only reveals contempt of the law but also poses a serious threat to public order and endangers lives.
"Allowing such violence to spread will greatly endanger public security and ultimately undermine the foundation of our country's rule of law," he said.
He said this incident comes as a shock and must be roundly rebuked, adding that MCA Youth opposes any attempts by individuals or organisations to manipulate the law for their own benefit.
This includes inciting people to boycott or engage in actions beyond the boundaries of the law, such as vigilantism.
"Malaysia is a nation governed by the rule of law and MCA youth asserts that this incident should be dealt with by the authorities via investigations and appropriate action against the related parties.
"As certain persons have been charged in court in connection with the controversy, it is up to the court to deliver judgment," he said.
Chong said the escalation of provocations, such as advocating for boycotts, serves to only heighten tension in society, strain inter-ethnic and inter-religious relations, and ultimately, polarise the citizens.
"As responsible and mature political leaders, we should uphold the rule of law, and conduct ourselves within the confines of the law, rather than manipulating public sentiment based on emotions and tearing apart the harmony between races.
"Those who tarnish religion cannot be spared, while vigilantes must not be let off the hook. We once again urge political figures who continuously inflame this incident to refrain from doing so and stop episodes like the petrol bomb attack from recurring, as the consequences would be unimaginable," he added. - The Vibes, March 27, 2024
