A PANEL involving the national unity and religious affairs ministries will be holding an emergency meeting to discuss the attacks on the KK Mart chain, according to its ministers.

In a joint statement, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said the religious harmony committee will discuss the situation and take immediate action to maintain harmony.

The ministers warned all to refrain from stirring racial tensions with extreme racial rhetoric, which could lead to social tensions among Malaysia’s multiethnic, multireligious, and multicultural population.

Aaron and Naim said no one should provoke religious sensitivities and that everyone should adhere to the federal constitution.

The warning comes after Sunday’s attack on a KK Mart in Kuching – the third in a week.

Earlier in the week, outlets of the convenience store in Kuantan, Pahang and Bidor, Perak were also attacked with Molotov cocktails.

KK Mart has been under the spotlight after socks bearing the word “Allah” were found being sold at one of its outlets in Bandar Sunway.

Its founder KK Chai and his wife Loh Siew Mui, who is the company director, have claimed trial in court to a charge of wounding religious feelings. – April 2, 2024.
