SABAH Umno is concerned over attempts to link the KK Mart socks issue with the state party.

Its chief, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, said he has learnt that a former assemblyman has associated the KK Mart incident with Sabah Umno and has called on Sabahans to reject Umno.

"I find his views quite amusing. Why would the former assemblyman, after decades of absence from the public eye, attempt to connect Sabah Umno with the issue and label us as extremists? Everyone knows we are neither extremist nor racist.

“Every day, I collaborate with non-Muslims. I have also urged non-Muslim Umno members to refute all such statements. The former assemblyman cannot judge us in that manner."

"If such a thing occurred in the Peninsula, please, do not bring it here," he told reporters after a breaking-of-fast event yesterday.

Bung, who is also the Kinabatangan MP and Lamag state assemblyman, said that the KK Mart issue is irrelevant to Sabah since the convenience store does not operate in the state.

He also said that Umno has instructed Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh to cease discussing the matter, as it was later revealed that KK Mart owners had no control over the supply and publicly apologised for the incident.

"It's not a matter of whether we agree or disagree with Akmal. But Umno has already directed him to stop during a recent meeting.

“Even the party president, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and the King have called for an end to the issue," he said. - The Vibes, April 3, 2024
