A FORMER Sabah lawmaker has questioned Sabah Umno’s disassociation from the KK Mart socks controversy, claiming it would be difficult for the state to adopt a different stand from the party (Umno Malaysia).

Datuk James Ligunjang said the statement by Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin contradicted the reality of Umno’s stand.

Ligunjang was a former Petagas assemblyman from Upko. He left Upko but remained as a political activist in Sabah.

“Bung Moktar's assertion that Sabah Umno had no involvement in Umno Youth chief Dr Muhammad Akmal Saleh's exhortation on the sock issue is highly questionable.

“It must be noted that the Umno Supreme Council had endorsed the action taken by Akmal.

“As a member of the Umno Supreme Council, Bung Moktar endorsed the actions of their Youth Head, thereby suggesting some level of agreement or support from Umno Sabah,” he said in Kota Kinabalu, today.

Last night, Bung, at a breaking-of-fast event, criticised Ligunjang for suggesting that the actions by Akmal were reflective of Sabah Umno’s stance on the KK Mart incident. - The Vibes, April 3, 2024
