GUESTS who have been invited to a Hari Raya open house should be courteous enough to inform the host if they are unable to attend.

TikTok user @muaandgroomingmelaka, who wished to be known as Dekwan, told World of Buzz only a handful of people showed up for his event in Malacca.

"I take food seriously so I planned everything ahead of time to ensure my friends and guests would feel comfortable, have enough to eat, and have a good time.”

Dekwan said he spent the entire day cooking for the guests but he began receiving messages from friends saying they could not make it.

“When I got the messages, I tried to stay positive and figured maybe they were busy celebrating Raya with their families. But out of 45 people, only five or six told me directly that they couldn’t come, while the rest just didn’t say anything.”

Dekwan said he was disappointed after all the hard work he had done to organise the event, He said he waited until 9pm for his friends, who never confirmed if they were coming.

“I persuaded guests who did come to take some food home because there was so much and I didn’t want it to go to waste.

"My advice to everyone is that if you get invited to an event, always let the host know whether you’ll be attending.” – April 18, 2024.
