CITY Hall has identified 28 trees in Kuala Lumpur to be cut down after a tree that was uprooted in a storm crashed down on vehicles stuck in traffic.
It said 147 trees, most of them more than 50 years old, had been felled since 2019.
The city authority said the trees in the city were regularly inspected by a certified arborist. The last inspection was in February, when 28 trees were marked for removal.
“DBKL, through an appointed contractor, periodically inspects trees that are more than 30 years old or have a girth of more than 1.5 metres,” it said in a statement.
City Hall said the trees were subjected to pruning, root treatment, or felling as and when required under the Rendang Tree Management Plan.
On the Tuesday incident in Jalan Sultan Ismail, where a tree was uprooted during a thunderstorm, City Hall said the tree was on private land and tagged for maintenance.
"DBKL will help to facilitate the victims’ claims to the appropriate party,” it said in a statement.
