Some Sarawak PKR members who left now want to return, say leader

A NUMBER of Sarawak PKR members who left the party when it was going through hard times now want to return to it, said party leaders.

State PKR chairman Roland Engan and deputy chairman Senator Abun Sui Anyit have been meeting some of these former PKR members who have expressed their desire to rejoin the party.

Sui today confirmed that there were “reconciliation” moves with these groups that want to rejoin Sarawak PKR.

“Yes, it is true that we are getting such requests from many former members and grassroot leaders who had left Sarawak PKR before. They now want to rejoin the party.

“State party chairman (Roland Engan) recently spoke about this matter during our state leadership meetings and we are open to accepting those who had left the party and who now want to return.

“They must rejoin by reapplying as ordinary members and follow the required processes. Our party leadership has agreed to use the reconciliatory approach towards those who had left us before if they are sincere in wanting to come back,” he said.

Sui, who is also Sarawak Pakatan Harapan information chief, said those who want to rejoin Sarawak PKR must not think of getting posts and key positions.

“The most important thing is that they must adhere and support our struggle to ensure Sarawak is a fair and just place for the ordinary rakyat.

“The interests of the rakyat are top priority, not personal positions,” he stressed.

Sui said he feels that the keen desire by these former PKR people to rejoin the party was because they feel that the unity government is advancing the country in the right direction.

“I think they acknowledge that Pakatan Harapan as a coalition and the unity government as a whole are sincere in wanting to make Malaysia a better country for all its people.

“We in Sarawak PKR have been fighting to see justice and equal distribution of land, natural resources and wealth for all in Sarawak.

“Those who share our struggles, we welcome them with open arms,” said Sui.

He said the reconciliation process will be gradual and low-key, and will take place at the branch and sub-branches when the current leaders at these grassroot levels give their approval after following the necessary processes. – May 27, 2024
