THE prime minister today stressed that any investigation involving the Selangor government contract with a company linked to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh must be transparent.
According to reports in The Star, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he would leave it to the relevant authorities to investigate the issue.
“If there is a report then, there should be an investigation and also due process, it must be treated as any other case. I have no issues with it.
“Let the relevant authorities investigate, if there is a report made, then they should be transparent in their investigation,” he said when met after launching the Global Forum on Islamic Economics and Finance (GFIEF) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, today.
Yesterday, Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti) defended its involvement in Selangor’s new demand-responsive transit (DRT) service, saying only two companies in the country are qualified to provide the service it provides.
In a statement, it said its appointment was done publicly nearly a year ago.
The company’s board of directors claimed that it had been subjected to a recent online campaign by certain unidentified parties that have cast doubts on the process by which the company was appointed.
Questions have arisen on the possibility of preferential treatment in the tender process following revelations that Asia Mobiliti CEO Ramachandran Muniandy is Yeoh’s husband.
Asia Mobiliti was one of two companies selected for the DRT service to provide first- and last-mile public transport services within the state.
Yesterday, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said there was no legal issue with the awarding of a Selangor government contract to the company, as it was awarded by the state government and not by the minister herself.
“According to the law, there is no wrongdoing if a person receives a contract or any type of benefit from an agency or entity that is not related to them,” he said. – May 28, 2024
