THE Selangor government is ready to disclose the details of a contract awarded to Asia Mobility Technologies Sdn Bhd (Asia Mobiliti) to manage the state's demand responsive transit (DRT) project, Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said.
“We are willing to do that,” he was quoted as saying in Free Malaysia Today.
“We have no problem doing because there is freedom of information,” Amirudin said, adding that the state government was also ready to release the minutes of the meetings between Asia Mobility and Land Public Transport Agency.
Corruption watchdogs had raised concerns over the state government’s decision to award the project to the company whose co-founder and CEO Ramachandran Muniandy is the husband of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
CSO Platform for Reform, an umbrella body for reformist groups, said this morning that the appointment raises red flags for potential conflict of interest.
Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism yesterday called on the Selangor government to disclose the full details of Asia Mobiliti’s appointment.
Asia Mobiliti is one of two companies selected by the state to prove their capabilities to run the project. The other is Badanbas Coach Sdn Bhd.
Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the contract for the DRT project had not been awarded to Asia Mobiliti. Instead, the company had only been given a deal to prove its ability to deliver. The nine-month period ends in July.
On Tuesday, MACC chief Azam Baki said there was no need to investigate the case as no crime had been committed.
Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han has defended the selection of the two companies, saying they were approved by federal regulators.
He said the two companies were participating in a nine-month feasibility study for the bus-on-demand system. – May 30, 2024.
