BERSATU has revoked the membership of six of its lawmakers with immediate effect.

In a statement today, Bersatu said notices had been issued to the said members informing them of their expulsion.

Party secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the notices were sent pursuant to the directive issued by Bersatu’s supreme council, which convened on June 7, 2024.

“The Perikatan Nasional leadership council was also informed of the directive during its meeting last night.

“The six representatives had violated Clause 10.4 of the Bersatu constitution,” he said.

Regarding Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman’s membership, Hamzah said the party terminated Suhaili’s membership under clause 10.2.6 of the Bersatu constitution last month.

Hamzah said a notice informing Suhaili that his membership was terminated was sent to him on May 17.

He said the process was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and national legislation as provided under Article 49(A) of the Federal Constitution or under state government laws.

The six MPs had also failed to respond to a written instruction from the party’s supreme leadership council to pledge allegiance to the party.

The MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Zulkafperi Hanafi (Tanjong Karang) and Suhaili.

Yesterday, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would notify the Dewan Rakyat speaker soon that its six MPs who have backed Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s government are no longer party members. – June 12, 2024
