2.5 million vehicles to hit the highways over Raya Haji weekend
More than 2.5 million vehicles are expected to hit the major highways over the long Raya Haji weekend.

MORE THAN 2.5 million vehicles are expected to travel the the major highways over the long weekend in conjunction with Hari Raya Haji on Monday.

The Malaysia Highway Authority (MHA) said the the high traffic volume will last until Tuesday.

During this period, traffic on PLUS highways is expected to reach up to 2.2 million vehicles while 181,000 vehicles are projected to traverse the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway. Nearly 150 vehicles are expected on Phases 1 and 2 of the East Coast Highway.

"The concessionaires have been instructed to ensure that the toll collection system functions properly to prevent congestion at toll plazas, in addition to adding toll lanes at several toll plazas with high traffic," it said in the statement.

Highway concessionaires are to temporarily halt construction and maintenance works requiring lane closures, except for emergency cases, from June 12 to 19.

The MHA and highway concessionaires have activated 20 smart lanes at several stretches along the PLUS North-South Highway, and tidal flow routes on the KL-Karak Highway.
