SARAWAK police have launched a manhunt for an armed assailant who fired a shotgun at three youths near a supermarket at the Mile 19 township along the Kuching-Serian highway early today.

The shooting occurred at about 2am.

Padawan district police chief Mohd Irwan Hafiz today said police have launched a manhunt for the assailant, who is believed to be armed with a loaded shotgun.

“The shooting took place in an area behind a supermarket at Mile 19.

“Three male youths, one aged 24 and the two others 25, sustained wounds to their body and have been sent to the hospital.

“The weapon used is believed to be a shotgun,” he said.

Irwan said police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are trying to track down the suspect.

Police are probing the case as public assault with dangerous weapons under the Penal Code and the Firearms Act.

“The motive of the shooting is still being investigated,” he said.

The wounded victims have been hospitalised and their condition is reportedly not critical, he added. – July 8, 2024
