CHIEF Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said there would be “good news” for around 1.6 million civil servants at the 19th Civil Service Premier Assembly (MAPPA) this Friday, reported the New Straits Times.

“Cannot leak it (the news), Insya-Allah (God willing), there will be good news for all civil servants. The news will bring joy to all,” he said briefly after clocking in as the 16th chief secretary to the government at Perdana Putra today.

Also present was Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

The Prime Minister’s Office announced Shamsul’s appointment as the new chief secretary on August 7. He succeeds Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali who retired on August 10.

It was earlier reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would announce the specifics of a salary adjustment mechanism at MAPPA where civil servants would be able to check and calculate their salary hike rates under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) following the government’s adjustment initiative.

Last week, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said civil servants in the “implementing group” are expected to see salary increases of up to 42.7% through the SSPA.

He said detailed information on the salary adjustments would be made available on Friday.

During the Labour Day celebration on May 1, Anwar announced a more than 13% increase in civil servants’ salaries, among the highest in Malaysia’s history.

The increase will be effective from December 1 this year. – August 12, 2024.
