A FIRE at an industrial plant in the Samalaju Industrial Estate in Miri Sarawak has injured 10 workers, with four of them hospitalised for burns.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department reported that the incident occurred yesterday evening at around 6.30pm.

“The fire started in a reactor at the site.

“The emergency response team at the site managed to contain the fire, but 10 workers were injured, four of whom sustained burns.

“They have been rushed to the hospital,” said the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), in a statement, has called for full public disclosure of the incident.

“The large fire has caused public concern due to the potential atmospheric pollution.

“There must be full disclosure of the cause,” said the party.

Samalaju is located about 150 km south of Miri city along the Miri-Bintulu second coastal highway. – August 15, 2024.
