MCA YOUTH today hit out at Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming after his official vehicle was illegally parked at the entrance of the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) in Petaling Jaya on Monday.
MCA Youth secretary-general Saw Yee Fung claimed that when asked to move the vehicle, the driver refused and also got into a heated argument with the auxiliary police.
“This is not the first time that Nga’s team has disrupted public order. These incidents expose the negligence of his duty as a minister.
“He must take immediate action and formally apologise to the public and vow not to repeat such acts. His blatant acts against public order are unacceptable,” she said.
Netizens recently took to social media and whistle-blower site “Edisi Siasat” over the parking incident.
They claimed that a minister went to UMMC for personal matters and after the minister got out of the vehicle and entered the hospital, the auxiliary police asked the minister’s driver to park the vehicle in another parking space to avoid obstructing others.
“But the minister’s driver refused to obey the instructions and even said, ‘Oh, if it’s a Malay minister’s car, you can let them park, but if it’s a Chinese minister, you can’t.”
Saw said this is not the first time Nga’s team has been involved in such controversies.
“Nga and his team have repeatedly abused the privileges of ministerial office, monopolising public resources and disrupting public order, causing inconvenience and endangering the public.
“A similar incident occurred not long ago. During a meal in Penang, Nga displayed his ministerial arrogance by occupying at least 30 public parking spaces, prioritising his own needs and ‘convenience’ above the interests of the public, sparking widespread anger.
“His official vehicle had also tailgated an ambulance to avoid the traffic congestion. This not only constitutes an abuse of public resources but also shows a flagrant disregard for traffic laws, endangering the safety of other road users,” added Saw.
As a minister, she said Nga has a responsibility to lead by example, not to exploit his position or to misuse his authority. – September 5, 2024
