THE RM6.7 billion allocation for Sabah will ensure the continuity of all development projects earmarked under the 12th Malaysia, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The allocation is a 0.45 per cent increase from last year’s RM6.67 billion budget given to Sabah.
Hajiji expressed confidence that the funds would be sufficient to complete key projects outlined in the five-year plan.
"This allocation is adequate to carry forward development projects as we conclude the 12th Malaysia Plan next year," he said after watching the live broadcast of the National Budget 2025 presented by Prime Minister and Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Dewan Rakyat, today.
The Chief Minister also welcomed the government's progressive approach under the Unity Government, which he said aims to ensure the prosperity of the people without compromising the nation's economic stability.
Hajiji also noted the Federal Government’s recognition of Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), along with the decision to increase Sabah’s interim special payment from RM300 million to RM600 million next year.
Also present during the budget announcement were Sabah’s Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.
Hajiji also noted the Federal Government’s continued focus on narrowing the regional development gap through the provision of essential infrastructure such as roads, water, and electricity.
He also lauded the issuance of letters of acceptance (SST) for 17 packages under Phase 1B of the Pan Borneo Sabah project, worth RM9.7 billion.
He also welcomed the Federal Government’s finalisation of work packages for the Sabah Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) Phase 2, valued at RM7.4 billion, with two packages awarded and the remaining to be finalised before the end of the year.
"We also appreciate the agreement to upgrade Tawau Airport, which will contribute to our regional development," Hajiji added, noting that these initiatives are separate from funds allocated to repair dilapidated schools in Sabah.
The Chief Minister concluded that the 2025 Budget reflects a strengthening Malaysian economy, which bodes well for continued progress in Sabah. - October 18, 2024
