PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow hopes the recent arrest of two immigration officers at the Penang International Airport by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Penang International Airport, would put a stop to human trafficking in the state.
The two suspects were allegedly involved in setting up a special passage counter to allow the entry of illegal foreign workers upon arrival at the airport here.
Chow said that the state emulates the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in not tolerating any form of corruption in the country.
"So we are hoping that the MACC action will paralyse the activities of the syndicates involved in bringing in foreign workers illegally and act as a deterrent to public officers," he said after attending the chief ministership debate championship here.
Earlier, MACC undercover officers nabbed the two officers for allegedly allowing undocumented foreign workers into the state through a special counter at the airport.
The duo, a man and a woman are now under remand for further investigations. - October 22, 2024
