FEDERAL Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has proposed that Malaysians going for domestic tours within the country be allowed to submit their expenses for personal tax reductions.

This is a way to boost domestic tourism while at the same time, the country works to woo foreign tourists.

Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he has already tabled a proposal to the Finance Ministry on this.

"Matters relating to personal taxes are under the Finance Ministry so we must consult them.

"I have met with them (MoF) to propose the personal tax reductions as incentives for those going for domestic vacations.

"Their expenses should be submitted for personal tax deductions as a way to encourage more Malaysians to visit destinations inside our own country," he said in his social media updates.

Tiong said his ministry is going all out to make Visit Malaysia Year 2026 a big success and is already aggressively promoting Malaysia in the international arena.

On Oct 3, it was announced that the ministry had managed to secure deals with international airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia to open numerous exciting new direct flights from overseas to major destinations in Malaysia such as the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malacca, Sabah, Penang and Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Selangor.

The pioneering flights will include Kenya - KLIA2, Singapore - Malacca, Ho Chi Minh City - Kota Kinabalu, Singapore - Subang, Shenzhen - Penang, Lucknow in India - KLIA, and others and also the return of British Airways from London to KLIA and restart of MAS KL to Paris route. - November 10, 2024
