A FORM Two female student was found dead after allegedly falling from the eighth floor of a secondary school building in Jelutong, George Town yesterday.
Northeast district police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the 14-year-old was confirmed dead at the scene after falling from the eighth floor of the school.
According to Sinar Harian, he said a medical officer from Penang Hospital notified the police about the incident at 5:57 pm.
"Investigations at the scene and on the victim's body revealed no signs of foul play," he said in a statement late last night.
Abdul Rozak said that the case had been classified as sudden death.
"The police have also opened a sudden death report to facilitate further investigations.
"The public is urged not to make any speculative statements that could interfere with the investigation, nor to circulate images or videos of the scene, out of respect for the feelings of the victim's family," he said.
Just over a week ago, a 16-year-old male student from a secondary school in Seremban died after he is believed to have fallen from the fourth floor of a block.
According to a statement from the school, the student died on the spot in the incident which occurred at about 6 am.
"After the incident, the school immediately called for an ambulance. When medical personnel arrived, they confirmed that the student had died.
"The incident is under investigation by the police and the school will cooperate fully," read the statement.
In early October a 13-year-old girl tragically fell to her death from several floors of a school building in Kuala Lumpur.
The school confirmed that one of its students passed away.
"Immediate emergency measures were taken, and authorities were notified.
"Despite these efforts, the medical personnel confirmed the student had passed away.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time," the school said in a statement.

- In March, a Form Four student tragically lost her life after reportedly falling from the third floor of a school building in Sungai Buloh.
Sungai Buloh District police chief Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad said they received a report on the incident at 11.26am.
“The student’s body was sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital, and the post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was head injuries as a result of falling from a significant height,” he said in a statement.
- In June, a student from a school in Kajang, who was reported to be in critical condition after falling from the fifth floor of the school building died two days later.
Kajang District police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the 13-year-old boy was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Kajang Hospital at 2:30am.
"Further investigation through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained showed that the victim is believed to have fallen from the fifth floor of the school building.
"The student was treated at Kajang Hospital and sustained several injuries to his head and body. The cause of death was due to a fall from a high place," he said in a statement.
- In July, a Form One female student died after she is believed to have fallen from the first floor of her school building in Melaka.
Melaka Tengah district police chief, Christopher Patit said the body of the victim was found by the school gardener at the school corridor at 2.31pm.
He said the victim's classroom was on the second floor of the building.
"An investigating team found her shoes on the second floor. We have no witnesses so far, and no evidence of foul play around the scene of the incident," he said in a statement. - November 19, 2024
