A RUSSIAN yacht passing along Sarawak coastal waters was swept by turbulent waves onto a sandbank at Kuala Oya, near Mukah in central Sarawak last night.

Four Russian men on board were found safe in the incident that happened about 8 pm yesterday.

Dalat police chief Deputy Superintendent Saga Chunggat said the four sailors were found unharmed along the Kuala Oya beaches.

"The Russians were sailing along the coastal seas when their yacht called Pilgrim was hit by huge waves.

"The vessel was swept onto sandbanks and got stuck.

"The four Russian men are safe. They were sailing from the Philippines heading along the Sarawak waters towards Kuching.

"The sailors had requested our help to free the yacht and tow it into the sea so that they can continue their sailing voyage," he said.

Meanwhile, various parts of Sarawak saw strong winds uprooting trees in the districts of Miri, Bintulu, Mukah and others.

Floods were also reported in many scattered locations statewide.
