THE Federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) has set up specific committees to promote Malaysia-Asean countries globally as part of the country's ASEAN chairmanship this year.

Johor will lead the committee tasked with promoting Malaysia-ASEAN globally, while Sarawak will promote cultural exchanges among countries and other regions on the global stage.

Other states have also been assigned their respective tasks.

Announcing this, Sarawak Minister for Tourism, Creative Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah said the federal ministry has entrusted respective states with specific committees.

"Since Malaysia is chairman of ASEAN this year, Motac sees the need to be aggressive in tourism promotions as well as the arts and culture sectors.

"The federal ministry expects to see a tremendous surge in foreign tourists coming to Malaysia and ASEAN countries.

"Johor has been entrusted with the task of promoting Malaysia-ASEAN to attract foreign tourists globally, while Sarawak will lead in the cultural exchanges aspect," he said in his media updates.

Karim and his ministry delegation have since attended a meeting with their Johor counterparts.

"Sarawak will support Johor in helping to attract foreign tourists, especially to east Malaysia.

"We are confident that the ASEAN chairmanship will see many more promotions carried out to highlight Sarawak to the ASEAN region and beyond," he stressed.

Sarawak tourism authorities will also be setting up more promotional outlets in Johor soon, he added. - January 16, 2025
