THE 19-year-old man arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a young girl at a mosque in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor possesses a disability card for learning difficulties, reported Berita Harian.

Director of the Selangor Department of Social Welfare (JKM), Azmir Kassim, when confirming the matter, stated that checksw by his department found that the individual involved has had a disability card since childhood.

"Our checks found that he (the suspect) had an OKU card for 'Learning Disability' since childhood," he said when contacted by Harian Metro today.

Earlier, Harian Metro reported that the police were waiting for JKM's confirmation regarding the OKU card belonging to the man detained in connection with the case.

Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, had said that the OKU card was indeed found, but it needs to be verified by JKM.

The man has been remanded for seven days starting today until February 28 to assist in the investigation of the case under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Police received a report at 8:19 an yesterday regarding the incident, which also went viral on social media, before the suspect was arrested on the same day around Batang Kali.

The incident was reported to have occurred while the victim was performing prayers in the back row of the women's prayer area in the mosque.

The viral closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shows a man wearing a white cap sneaking into the women's prayer area before hugging a girl from behind while others were performing the Subuh prayer.

Based on the recording, the man involved was seen lifting the victim and taking her to another room before she was believed to have been assaulted.

However, the victim managed to escape after struggling with the suspect. – February 22, 2025
