CONFUSION erupted within Sabah PKR following claims by a leader that decisions on electoral partnerships and candidate selection are determined by the party’s national leadership.

Sabah PKR Information Chief Razeef Rakimin took steps to correct news reports, citing Sabah PKR Deputy Treasurer Datuk Nordin Ening, who suggested that these matters were the prerogative of national leaders.

He asserted that the state leadership maintains autonomy over seat allocations, coalitions, and the election manifesto.

“These decisions are made at the state level before being conveyed to the central leadership. This is different from reports suggesting that cooperation is determined by the central leadership,” Razeef said.

He also made it clear that only the state chairman and deputy chairman have the authority to announce election-related matters.

“I also ask party leaders in the state not to issue any statements without referring to the State Leadership Council.

“The party has decided that only the chairman and deputy chairman can make their own statements, while the Information chief is entrusted as the party’s spokesperson and can only issue statements after being confirmed by the political bureau,” he said.

PKR Sabah is also calling for discipline within its ranks, urging members to ensure all public statements align with the leadership’s decisions.

Several local media had previously quoted Nordin as saying that the decision on these matters are decided by the top leadership after hearing the views and advice of the state PKR leaders.  - March 2, 2025
