FORMER DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng is expected to wait until the next general election to decide on his next political recourse after his stunning slide in Sunday's central executive committee (CEC) elections.
Lim plunged to number 26 out of the 30 elected slots for the CEC and was appointed as DAP's adviser instead of the party chairman, which he had held for a term.
Seen as relatively young at 64, Lim is expected to bid his time for the next three years to see his relevancy in DAP, the national and Penang political scenes, said a former aide.
"Frankly Lim and his sister Lim Hui Ying, who is the Deputy Finance Minister, would wait to see what happens in the unfolding years. He is accustomed to the political turmoil of winning and losing. Whether he reemerges stronger, it remains to be seen."
Hui Ying failed to make it into the CEC, finishing number 31, and it is uncertain if she might be part of the high-powered decision-making committee.
Lim has a level of support from outside DAP, as some quarters are endeared to his bold and outspoken stance on issues afflicting the country although the opposite side of it, portrayed him as a Chinese chauvinist and extremist, said the former aide.
"We have told him to focus on clearing his name in the corruption case and continue to be the conscience of not just DAP but the country."
Lim has refrained from media interviews since his perceived loss of support in the DAP party elections despite the almost daily media coverage accorded to him.
He is the son of DAP founding member Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang, and the former had served as secretary - general for close to two decades.
Lim has however taken to social media to post this:
"Many have expressed concern about all the news reports about me. Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all my supporters—and even to those who don’t support me. Thanks for your concern and encouragement. I appreciate it deeply from my heart!"
Congratulations to Anthony Loke Siew Fook for becoming the DAP secretary - general again and to Gobind Singh Deo for being the newly appointed national chairman!
"Wishing both every success and rest assured we will unite under Loke. Let’s keep moving forward together to make DAP stronger."
Lim was also not seen at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Penang yesterday where he was greeted by majority of the Pakatan Harapan's elected representatives. - March 19, 2025.
