MALAYSIA, through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), will deploy a ten-member Assessment Team to Yangon, Myanmar today to provide technical assistance and conduct an on-site needs assessment to support ongoing humanitarian and disaster relief operations.
A second Nadma deployment involving 40 personnel is also scheduled to depart tomorrow.
In a statement today, Wisma Putra said this larger team will focus on addressing priority areas identified during the initial assessment, ensuring that Malaysia’s assistance remains targeted, relevant, and responsive to the evolving situation.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a message yesterday expressed deep concern over the scale of devastation and extended Malaysia’s heartfelt condolences and prayers to the victims and their families.
He reaffirmed Malaysia’s solidarity with its ASEAN neighbours and stated that Malaysia stands ready to support ongoing humanitarian and recovery efforts.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said ASEAN stands ready to assist Myanmar and Thailand in their disaster response efforts, in accordance with the priorities set by both countries.
He outlined that ASEAN Member States will coordinate closely through the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre), to ensure that humanitarian aid is delivered in a timely, appropriate, and effective manner.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is facilitating all necessary visa and logistical arrangements for the Nadma mission, while the Embassy of Malaysia in Yangon will support the team’s operations on the ground, including coordination with local authorities and humanitarian partners.
