HUMAN Resources Minister Steven Sim said he has never appointed anyone as his advisor.
His statement came in response to recent claims suggesting that a certain individual, allegedly a businessman who defrauded the public of RM10 million, was serving as an advisor to the Minister.
In a statement issued today, Sim’s press secretary, Abdul Hakim Ab Rahman, said the ministry is aware of the allegations and is clarifying that no such appointment has been made. "Any inquiries regarding positions within the Minister's office or the Ministry of Human Resources should be directed to the official channels of the ministry," he added.
This clarification follows a report by a news portal which claimed that a businessman, referred to as Tan Sri, who is under investigation for allegedly defrauding people under the pretext of providing money to the police to resolve a money laundering case, was serving as an advisor to the Minister.
On March 29, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested the businessman, who has 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, for allegedly duping funds, which he claimed were to be handed over to the police for a money laundering investigation.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that a press conference regarding the case will be held soon. – March 31, 2025
