PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Selangor state government and relevant agencies to extend support to those affected by the devastating pipeline fire in Putra Heights.

In a post on Facebook, the Prime Minister expressed his concern for both the victims and the personnel involved in the rescue operations, stating, "I also pray for those (agency personnel) on the ground."

The incident occurred earlier this morning when residents were taken by surprise as a large fire erupted in the area, with flames visible from several kilometres away.

The fire, caused by a pipeline explosion, prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

A total of over 10 fire engines and water tanker units were dispatched to the scene to combat the blaze. According to the authorities, 112 people were injured in the fire, with 49 victims still receiving medical attention at a temporary medical base established at the Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple.

The intense heat from the fire reportedly caused significant damage to the surrounding area. Those who managed to escape unharmed said the extreme heat had melted CCTV cameras and water tanks at their homes.

Disturbing images and videos of burnt and damaged vehicles have also circulated widely on social media, highlighting the extent of the destruction.

The authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and are continuing efforts to contain the fire while providing medical care to those affected by the disaster. – April 1, 2025
