PERBADANAN Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) is set to deploy 80 tanker trucks and 182 water tanks as part of its water relief initiative (WRP) during the planned water supply disruption (SWSI) starting April 25.
According to CEO Datuk K. Pathmanathan, this relief effort aims to assist 341,708 consumers across five districts in Penang.
"The WRP will unfold in three phases, commencing at 10 pm on April 25 and concluding at 10 pm the following day. In the first 24 hours, 80 tanker trucks and 182 water tanks will be sent to the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT), Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS), Timur Laut, and Barat Daya districts.
"Phase two will kick off at 10 am on April 26 and last until 10 pm the next day. During this phase, 80 tanker trucks and 125 water tanks will be withdrawn from the SPS and Barat Daya regions once 40 percent of the water supply has been restored.
"Phase three will begin at 10 PM on April 27 and continue until 10 am the next day, deploying 80 tanker trucks and 120 water tanks to the end-of-distribution-pipe (EoL) areas and higher residential zones after 88 percent of the water supply has been restored," he stated in a recent statement.
He noted that five tanks would be taken out of service after 48 hours, once most consumers in SPS and Barat Daya have their water supply restored, and the WRP will only conclude when 95 percent of the water supply is fully back online.
Pathmanathan added that water supply is anticipated to be restored to affected consumers in the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU), SPT, and Timur Laut districts within 24 hours, while most consumers in the SPS and Barat Daya areas should see restoration within 48 hours.
Full water supply restoration for all affected consumers, including those in EoL areas and higher ground residential zones in SPS and Barat Daya, is expected within 60 hours. - April 11, 2025
