POLICE have confirmed receiving a report regarding a viral video featuring a group of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) foundation students dressed in costumes resembling those of the white supremacist group, the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).
The footage was reportedly part of an academic presentation at UiTM’s Dengkil campus.
In a statement issued today, Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman said the students were believed to have been performing a historical reenactment as part of a coursework assignment related to the KKK.
“The video portrays a reenactment of past events in which white individuals were shown killing Black people. The emergence of the KKK prompted the establishment of new laws to combat racial discrimination,” he said.
Norhizam added that the case remains under police investigation, and he urged the public not to speculate or circulate false information that could lead to public unrest.
The incident was later clarified by UiTM, which issued a statement explaining that the presentation was a component of an academic project for students enrolled in the university’s Contemporary Global and Legal Issues course at its Foundation Centre.
“The students' attire resembling the KKK was part of an academic assignment intended to promote critical thinking and awareness of human rights issues at an international level,” the university stated.
UiTM explained that the presentation was conducted under the supervision of lecturers and faculty members, ensuring that the session adhered to academic principles and did not encroach upon religious, cultural, or racial sensitivities. – April 16, 2025
