FOURTEEN individuals, including three women, are on remand for five days starting today to assist in an investigation for allegedly submitting false birth registration forms to the National Registration Department (NRD).

The remand order against the suspects - 11 men and three women - aged between 28 and 49, was issued by Magistrate Ameera Mastura Khamis following an application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

According to a source, all the suspects were detained between  noon and 6pm yesterday when they appeared to give statements at the Selangor MACC Office.

“Initial investigations found that all the suspects are believed to have committed the act between 2015 and 2023.

“All the suspects are suspected of committing the act by applying for identity cards and birth certificates from the National Registration Department using false details to confirm the birth of the babies, though there were no records of the babies’ births in the hospitals involved,” said the source.

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC Director, Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said that the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009. - April 16, 2025
