THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Ministry of Economy have agreed to establish a special team to monitor projects approved by the Ministry (Economy) at the state and district levels.

A statement issued by the MACC tonight noted that the special team would involve information exchange between the ministry and MACC concerning total allocations approved for the states and districts.

”The team will conduct spot checks and investigations into corruption cases, including abuse of power and misappropriation in the implementation of approved projects; Identification of weaknesses in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the enhancement of governance processes involving budget determination, allocation disbursement, monitoring, and project implementation to improve effectiveness,” the commission said in a statement issued on Thursday night.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki welcomed the commitment and openness of Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in ensuring transparency to curb leakages in projects approved by the Ministry for the benefit of the people.

“The openness and dedication shown by the Minister are highly commendable and should serve as an example for other ministries and agencies,” he said. - April 17, 2025
