THE Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has issued a stern warning against those who offer fake haj packages, stressing that such acts of exploitation for personal gain are both morally and religiously unacceptable.

Delivering his royal address at the Selangor-level Haj Premier Course 1446H today, His Royal Highness said Islam strictly forbids cheating, and those involved in such misconduct would face not only legal action but also divine punishment.

“Such acts are taken seriously by the government. Islam strictly prohibits cheating, and those involved in such wrongdoing are subject to divine punishment,” he said.

Sultan Sharafuddin urged the public to make use of official haj services provided by Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and to avoid unlicensed travel agents, whose actions could leave pilgrims stranded or compromise the validity of their pilgrimage.

“I hope there will be no more cases of haj pilgrims being deceived by unlicensed agents in the future,” he added.

Also present at the event were the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, and Selangor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Sultan also reminded Selangor pilgrims to remain focused on their spiritual duties while in the Holy Land, to avoid demonstrations, and to comply with the instructions of Tabung Haji officers.

“I have been informed that Malaysian pilgrims, including those from Selangor, are among the most disciplined and compliant with the regulations set by the Saudi Arabian government.

“I hope all of you will continue to uphold self-discipline and maintain the good name of Selangor and Malaysia while in the Holy Land,” he said.

Acknowledging the physically demanding nature of the pilgrimage, the Sultan also urged pilgrims to prioritise their health and to seek medical assistance promptly if needed.

“Let me also remind all haj pilgrims to comply with the laws set by both the Malaysian and Saudi Arabian governments so that we may remain safe and free from any issues,” he said.

At the close of the event, Sultan Sharafuddin presented haj essentials as gifts to representatives from each district in Selangor. - April 20, 2025
