NINE pig farms in the Ayer Kuning state constituency are not responsible for river pollution and are operating in accordance with waste disposal regulations, Malaysia’s Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, has said.
According to him, the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) in Perak has conducted a scientific assessment which confirmed the farms are following proper environmental practices.
“I was informed by DVS experts that waste from these farms is first channelled into holding ponds, then treated using scientific methods before being released into the river,” Sinar Harian quoted him saying today.
“The pollution reading in the discharged water is below 10 parts per million (ppm), which is considered safe.”
He added, “Therefore, waste from the nine pig farms is not causing pollution. If any other parties have differing findings, they are welcome to present their evidence. Our studies within the Ayer Kuning constituency show no pollution has occurred.”
Mohamad made the remarks following a Madani dinner event held in Coldstream last night, which was also attended by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
He stressed that authorities would continue to monitor all pig farms to ensure full compliance with the law, and warned that strict action would be taken against any operator found violating environmental standards.
“We will keep monitoring the situation to ensure all regulations are followed and will act firmly if there is any breach or contamination,” he said. - April 25, 2025
