A 28-year-old mechanic has been remanded for seven days by a Magistrates' Court in Melaka following allegations of sexual abuse against his mother's young charge. The offences are reported to have occurred since the girl was seven years old.

Magistrate N Sivashangari issued the remand order for the unmarried suspect until this coming Monday to facilitate the ongoing investigation under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Sources indicate that the matter became known after the victim's mother received a phone call from a teacher requesting her immediate presence at the school.

According to the source, during the meeting, the teacher informed the mother that the young girl had allegedly been abused by the suspect since the age of seven at his mother's home in Kampung Batang Tiga, where she was being cared for.

The victim, now 12 years old, claims the abuse occurred while she was in a room and the suspect's mother was occupied in the kitchen.

"It is understood that the victim was last sent to the caregiver's home in December of last year," the source stated.

"The victim's mother was shocked to be informed about the incidents because the victim had never mentioned it to anyone before," the source added.

The source further explained that the mother had noticed her daughter becoming more withdrawn since the age of nine but had not suspected anything untoward.

The victim's mother subsequently filed a police report at the Batang Tiga Police Station last Saturday before taking her daughter to Melaka Hospital for further examination by a psychiatric specialist. - April 28, 2025
