A MOTHER is seeking answers after her 13-month-old son was hospitalised, allegedly after his neck became entangled in a piece of cloth in his cradle at his babysitter's house in Kuantan on April 15.
Ding, 37, claims that the babysitter's negligence resulted in her son spending eight days in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) before he was moved to the observation ward.
The 37-year-old sales assistant said the babysitter contacted her around 9.30am on April 15, informing her that her son had been found unconscious with his neck caught in the cloth, reported The New Straits Times.
"The babysitter took him to the hospital where he was placed in the ICU, and when I arrived, doctors informed me that my child had suffered brain hypoxia (a condition where the brain does not receive sufficient oxygen).
"He is now stable but will remain in the hospital for monitoring," said the mother of three," she said.
Ding said she has lodged a police report to ensure the authorities conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
"I believe that my son had been left unattended in the cradle, without proper supervision, before he was found unresponsive," she told reporters during a press conference at the Kuantan PKR service centre.
Also present was Koh Yee Yen, special officer to Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh.
Ding said she had been sending her son, the youngest of three siblings, to the babysitter's house since May last year and had never encountered any issues until this incident.
"The babysitter, who is in her 50s, has apologised to me, but I want answers. I have many questions about how this happened...I nearly lost my son in the incident.
"The incident has left me traumatised, and my only concern is my son's health condition. Doctors informed me that my son requires regular therapy sessions at the hospital and continuous observation due to his condition," she said.
Kuantan police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said police have recorded the statement from the complainant and the medical officer who treated the toddler.
He said police have visited the toddler at HTAA, and the case was investigated for allegedly neglecting or exposing the child to danger, resulting in injuries. - April 30, 2025
