THE MELAKA government has ordered an immediate investigation into allegations that a 22-month-old baby girl was left waiting for almost 11 hours at the Emergency and Trauma Department of the Melaka Hospital before suffering a seizure.
Melaka Human Resources and Unity Committee chairman Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem said he had contacted State Health Director, Dr. Ruzita Mustaffa after being informed about the viral case.
According to him, he had ordered the relevant parties to conduct an immediate investigation to find out the real cause and hoped that the public including the media would not speculate until a complete report was obtained.
“The state government views the allegations seriously as they involve the health and safety of patients, especially babies.
"We don't want this kind of thing to happen again and if the investigation finds negligence, appropriate action will be taken," he said as reported.
Earlier, a 13-minute video went viral on social media of the baby crying in pain, believed to be due to a high fever, sparking public sympathy and anger.
The video was also accompanied by a statement from the baby's mother, Siti Aishah Rahim, 27, who claimed that her eldest daughter, Siti Farha Adelia Mohd. Firdaus had not received proper treatment since they arrived at the hospital at about 2.30 pm and had to wait for 11 hours, last Saturday. – May 12, 2025
