PENANG police believed that they have resolved 25 break - in and robber cases in the state after the death of the main 35-year-old suspect in a shootout with the police at the lonely Lintang Bukit Jambul in the predawn hours today.
State chief police officer Hamzah Ahmad said that the suspect was staying idle in a BMW car parked along the narrow road stretch when officers approached him on the front passenger side.
Suddenly, the suspect alighted from the vehicle and fired several shots at a police patrol vehicle on anti - crime prevention rounds.
Police returned fire in self defence and when the shots died out, approached the vehicle to see the suspect sprawled dead on the ground.
A mopped up operation ensued and police rounded up seven male and one female , who were believed to be accomplices to the gunman.
Upon inspecting the car boot, the police uncovered a FNP - 45 revovlver with three rounds, a steel pipe, two rotan rods, a parang, a plastic bag which contacted the narcotics believed to be crystal methamphetamine weighing 22.5 grams, an electronic jammer signal device, clothing, and house breaking tools.
"We believed that we have solved 25 cases related to house break - ins and a string of laundrette burglaries."
The total value from the robberies and break - ins, are estimated to be about RM500,000, said Hamzah - May 15, 2025.
