THE silent sufferings of a Year Six student was from Bayan Lepas, Penang was revealed when the counselling teacher discovered cuts and bruises on his back, before the victim revealed that he had been locked in a dog cage by his parents.

Barat Daya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam said they received a report from the school headmaster at on Wednesday.

"Following that, police arrested both parents, aged 49 and 47 respectively.

"Both of them, who are also programme managers and engineers at two different factories, have no previous records," he said.

Sazalee said investigations found that the victim was caned on the back of the body for putting food in the wardrobe last Sunday, and the incident occurred at their home in a condominium in Sungai Ara.

"The counselling teacher conducted a physical examination when he saw the victim in pain while at school.

"The complainant (Headmaster) found out that the victim had been beaten after being informed by the counselling teacher," he said.

He said the victim, who is also the couple's second child, said he was often beaten and had been locked in a dog cage by the suspects about two years ago.

"The student is currently being treated at the Penang Hospital and the Social Welfare Department have visited the victim.

"We also seized a cane from the suspect's house and the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001," he said. – May 23, 2025
