A TEENAGER has pleaded not guilty to raping an underage student in a school store in Kuala Krai last year.
The 18-year-old accused appeared before Judge Zulkifli Abllah at the Sessions Court today, charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and caning upon conviction.
The accused is alleged to have raped a 15-year-old, 11-month-old female student around 3 PM in a school store room in Kuala Krai in April last year.
Represented by lawyer Wan Norfarhan Liyana Wan Baharuddin, the accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad requested bail of RM15,000, but Wan Norfarhan Liyana sought an amount not exceeding RM3,000.
The argument for lower bail was based on the fact that her client had just received an offer to continue matriculation studies on June 23, which requires extensive preparation.
"At the time of the incident, he was only 17 years old and is now 18. His mother and father, who work in a factory and as a labourer respectively, certainly cannot afford to pay a large amount of bail," she stated.
The court subsequently set bail at RM5,000 and scheduled June 26 for the submission of documents and a re-mention of the case. - May 27, 2025
