A VIETNAMESE male passenger onboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH752 was fined USD157 (about RM665) for 'joking' that he had a bomb in his hand-carry bag after landing at the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

According to reports in Vietnam News, the incident occurred on Sunday (June 22).

The Northern Airports Authority said shortly after landing, a flight attendant who was at the aircraft door to bid farewell to passengers, asked about a black box the passenger was carrying.

The passenger responded by saying it was a 'bomb', prompting the flight crew to immediately report the incident to the airport authorities.

"The passenger was immediately detained and an inspection of the rectangular black box revealed that it contained a computer keyboard and a mouse," said the airport authority.

No suspicious items or prohibited materials were found.

The passenger later admitted that the remark was a bad joke made from ignorance and apologised to authorities.

According to a representative of the Emergency Command Unit at the Noi Bai International Airport, this case involved a joke made after the aircraft had landed, which allowed for quicker verification and resolution.

Had the joke been made by a departing passenger, the entire process would have been far more complicated.

The flight could have been delayed while all passengers and baggage underwent security re-screening, disrupting the flight schedule and overall terminal operations, said the airport authority. – June 25, 2025
