THE body of a man who was attacked by a crocodile while fishing on a river near Jalan Matang, Kuching, last night, was found this afternoon.

Padawan District Police Chief, Superintendent Irwan Hafiz Mohd Radzi said the body of the victim, Jacob Tuan, 32, was found by the search and rescue (SAR) team at 12.30 pm.

He said the body was intact but there were wounds on several parts believed to be from bites by the vicious reptile.

"The victim's body was found by the SAR team about 300 metres from the location where he was said to have been attacked by the crocodile.

"The body has been sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (HUS) for a post-mortem and the case is currently classified as sudden death," he said.

In the incident at around 10pm yesterday, the victim was said to have been fishing when a crocodile suddenly  grabbed him before pulling him into the river.

The victim's family members who witnessed the incident said it happened so quickly that they did not have time to react.

They then immediately contacted the police for help.

The fire department, which received the information from the police, directed 12 personnel from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the location.

However, the SAR operation was difficult to carry out last night because the road leading to the location was through bushes and dark.

After discussions with the police and other agencies at the scene, the SAR operation was suspended at 12.30 am and resumed at 8am today until the victim's body was found at 12.30pm. - June 28, 2025
