FORMER Economy Minister, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim must remain as Prime Minister until the end of his term to ensure political stability in facing the current serious economic challenges.

According to the Pandan MP, any change of power when the nation is struggling with a bad economic environment, is feared to have a worse impact on the country and the people.

"We need a stable government so that it can finish its term. This government needs to be maintained not because I am fanatical about Anwar and power, but because the country cannot go through a change of power now because we are facing severe economic challenges.

"With the tariffs (of the United States). If you look at the latest projections of economic growth for several ASEAN countries, it could decrease by two or three percent, if our growth is low, it could spell trouble," he said the ‘Yang Berhenti Menteri’ podcast.

The former PKR Deputy President stressed that any change of government at this time does not guarantee that the situation will improve later.

"If we go through this (change of power), what if the next government is worse. As a Member of Parliament, my job is to ensure that this government does its best to meet the challenges for the next one or two years.

"This is the government's responsibility, though there are things I do not fully agree with ... if it can listen to criticism and improve, that would be better," he said. - July 19, 2025
